Nearly 61,000 NSW Healthcare Workers to Receive $10,000 Pay Rise by 2027
In a major win for healthcare workers in New South Wales, a pay rise of at least $10,000 over four years has been brokered by the Health Services Union NSW (HSU NSW).
The deal, which covers more than 60,000 workers, including allied health professionals, wards persons, cleaners, linen workers, administration staff, and pharmacy assistants, will be put to members on Monday with the unanimous backing of HSU NSW’s Branch Committee of Management.
Pay Rise Breakdown
Under the agreement, hospital assistants currently earning $52,000 will see their salaries increase by $10,000 to $62,000 by 2027.
Wards persons will receive a $10,400 pay rise, while security officers will see their salaries increase by $10,500.
Union Response
“That’s real money that makes a real difference to working families,” said HSU NSW Secretary Gerard Hayes.
“From the audiologists who help restore hearing, to the cleaners who maintain infection control, to the patient transport staff who provide dignity and care — every single one of our members deserves recognition.”
Implementation and Benefits
The full pay rise will be staggered annually over the four years to June 2027.
Workers will receive a four per cent pay rise in the first year of the two-year deal, followed by a second four per cent pay rise the year after, with a 0.5 per cent superannuation increase.
The agreement also addresses gender equity concerns, with the NSW Minns Government legislating improved gender equity objectives under the Industrial Relations Act in May.
In addition, night shift workers will see their loading increase to 20 per cent under the agreement.
The deal also embeds the right to two consecutive days off, no night shifts before annual leave unless requested, and no changes on published rosters without consultation.
