Train and Truck Collide in Brisbane Suburb, Hundreds of Passengers Affected
A commuter train carrying approximately 300 passengers collided with the trailer of a truck in Brisbane’s southern suburbs on Thursday morning, causing major disruptions across the South East Queensland rail network.
Emergency services were called to the level crossing at Bonemill Road in Runcorn shortly after 7 am, with authorities reporting only one minor injury from the incident.
A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson confirmed that of the hundreds of people on board the train, only one passenger required assessment for minor injuries, including a split lip and back pain. The drivers of both the train and the truck were uninjured in the collision.
Disruptions Prompt Renewed Calls for Safety Upgrades
The collision led to significant service suspensions on the rail line between Kuraby and Altandi stations, with replacement buses arranged for commuters.
The incident has prompted renewed calls for safety improvements, with a local action group, Bridges Save Lives, demanding the immediate closure of the Bonemill Road level crossing and the elimination of all similar crossings on the rail network to prevent future accidents.
