Man Dies in Police Custody After Being Tasered During Search Warrant
A 62-year-old man has died in police custody in the Northern Territory, after officers deployed a taser in an attempt to prevent him from self-harming during the execution of a search warrant.
Incident Details
Northern Territory Police attached to the Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team executed the search warrant at the man’s home south of Darwin around 7am on Friday.
About an hour later, officers used a taser to try and stop the man from harming himself.
During the incident, an officer sustained a hand injury while attempting to disarm the man.
The man’s wife was present at the scene, and officers provided first aid before paramedics arrived.
Despite their efforts, the man died at the scene.
A crime scene has been declared, and the street has been closed.
Investigation Underway
The incident is being treated as a death in custody, and investigations are ongoing.
The Northern Territory Police have not released any further information on the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
