Sydney Shooting Leaves One Dead, Another Critical After ‘Brazen’ Attack Outside Pub
In a shocking incident, one man has died and another is fighting for his life after a shooting outside a Sydney pub on Sunday night, with police describing the attack as “outrageous” and “brazen”.
Emergency services responded to the Harold Park hotel in Forest Lodge, Sydney’s inner west, at approximately 6:40pm on Sunday, following reports of a shooting.
New South Wales police confirmed that two individuals were shot multiple times by unknown assailants, who fled the scene in a dark-coloured vehicle.
Victims Ambushed While Walking to Their Car
According to Detective Superintendent Alfio Sergi of the Leichhardt Police Area Command, the two victims, aged 39 and 31, were walking to their car when they were ambushed by one or more gunmen.
The 39-year-old man died at the scene despite receiving treatment from police and paramedics.
The 31-year-old victim was chased by the offender, shot multiple times, and left critically injured.
Sergi described the attack as a “targeted” and “extremely dangerous” situation, with numerous shots fired outside the pub.
One bullet narrowly missed a female staff member, and witnesses reported hearing more than a dozen shots ring out.
Investigation Underway, Witnesses Urged to Come Forward
Police have established a crime scene and are appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.
Leichhardt detectives, assisted by the homicide squad, are investigating the incident, with a focus on potential links to organised crime networks.
The shooting has sent shockwaves through the community, with one eyewitness describing the incident as “rapid fire” and another reporting that the victim was shot “at least six times” in the neck, chest, and legs.
