Dale Webster, a surfer who held the Guinness World Record for the most consecutive days of surfing, has died, his family has announced.
Mr. Webster, who passed away in Rohnert Park, California, famously surfed for 14,642 consecutive days, a streak that lasted 40 years from 1975.
Mr. Webster’s record-breaking feat began with a personal goal to surf every day.
To maintain the streak, he was required to ride a minimum of three waves to shore daily, a commitment he upheld through illness, including a kidney stone, and adverse weather conditions.
His accomplishment was officially recognized by Guinness World Records in 2004.
Public Profile and Family
Mr. Webster gained international recognition after being featured in the 2003 surfing documentary “Step into Liquid,” where he discussed his pursuit of the world record.
He is survived by his daughter, Margo, two grandsons, and a brother, Randy.
His wife, Kaye, passed away in 2008.
