A man has died following a critical incident at a childcare centre in Peregian Springs on the Sunshine Coast on Monday evening.
Queensland Police were called to the scene after the man reportedly began smashing a glass door, prompting staff and children to secure themselves inside a room.
The incident occurred at the Habitat Peregian Springs centre at approximately 6 pm.
According to initial reports, when officers arrived, they attempted to engage with the man and deployed their Tasers multiple times.
It is understood the man then produced a knife and died from self-inflicted injuries.
The matter is being treated as a mental-health related incident.
Investigation Underway
The Queensland Police Service has been contacted for an official statement.
As the incident involved police contact prior to a death, it will be subject to an internal investigation with oversight from the state coroner, as is standard procedure.
