The body of a newborn baby boy discovered in a storm water drain in northern Perth is believed to have been there for approximately two weeks, Western Australia’s Premier Roger Cook said on Tuesday.
Police have launched an investigation after tradespeople made the discovery in the suburb of Alexander Heights on Monday afternoon.
The discovery was made by workers who were cleaning a drain. Premier Cook commented on the case on Tuesday, expressing concern for the child’s mother, who he said “must be incredibly distressed.”
He also acknowledged the “distressing circumstances” faced by the workers who found the body.
Police Appeal for Information
WA Police have confirmed the investigation is ongoing and have since clarified that the deceased infant was a boy.
Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could assist with their inquiries into the circumstances of the child’s death.
It was earlier reported that the baby was s girl, but the police have confirmed that the body was that of a baby boy.
