Perth Podcaster Charged with Murder, Son of Controversial GP
A 32-year-old Perth man, Tobias Nuttall, has been arrested and charged with the murder of his 30-year-old fiancé in a Bassendean home.
Nuttall, a podcaster who co-hosts a show exploring topics such as the occult and spirituality, is the son of Dr Alastair Nuttall, a GP who was suspended in 2017 following the death of a patient.
Background
Tobias Nuttall’s father, Dr Alastair Nuttall, made headlines in 2017 when he was found to have engaged in serious misconduct by encouraging a 10-year-old liver cancer patient to continue natural therapy treatment.
The patient, Tamar Stitt, died in 2009 after being misled by the GP, who falsely told her parents that her tumour had shrunk.
Dr Nuttall was subsequently suspended from practicing for 12 months and now works at a practice in Mullumbimby, New South Wales.
The Murder Charge
Tobias Nuttall was arrested last week after his fiancé died from injuries allegedly inflicted upon her at a Reid Street property.
The pair had returned home from a trip to Sydney, where Nuttall had been seeking compensation for a back injury.
Friends described the victim as “calm, very intellectual, and a deeply introspective type of woman” who was “head over heels in love” with Nuttall.
The Podcast and the Victim
Six weeks ago, the victim appeared on Nuttall’s podcast, where she discussed her experiences in the sex industry and her interest in the occult.
Nuttall’s co-host, Dale, has since released an episode discussing the woman’s death and Nuttall’s arrest, claiming that Nuttall’s family did not approve of the pair’s relationship.
Court Appearance
Tobias Nuttall faced Midland Magistrates Court on Friday, charged with his fiancé’s murder.
He was remanded in custody and is expected to appear in court again on September 17.
