NRL Star Brandon Smith Faces Charges for Drug Supply and Insider Betting
The South Sydney Rabbitohs’ Brandon Smith has been charged with supplying dangerous drugs and using or disclosing inside knowledge for betting, according to Queensland police.
Sources close to the investigation revealed that Smith was questioned by police upon his arrival on the Gold Coast ahead of the Rabbitohs’ Round 23 match, and although he was initially released without charge, further investigation led to the issuance of a summons on August 20.
Investigation and Charges
The police’s Organised Crime Gangs Group, Taskforce Maxima, South Eastern Region, conducted the investigation, resulting in Smith facing two charges.
The 29-year-old is expected to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on September 18.
A police spokesperson stated, “A 29-year-old man has been issued with a Summons by Queensland Police on August 20 for supplying dangerous drugs and using or disclosing inside knowledge for betting.”
Rabbitohs’ Response
The South Sydney Rabbitohs released a statement, saying, “The club is aware of allegations made by Queensland Police against player Brandon Smith.
The club has informed the NRL Integrity Unit about the allegations.”
The club added that they would make no further comment due to the ongoing police investigation.

Smith, who made a mid-season switch from the Roosters to the Rabbitohs earlier this season, was cooperative with police during the initial interview, according to Acting Police Commissioner Shane Chelepy.
