Jerry Adler, Veteran Actor of The Sopranos and The Good Wife, Dies at 96
Jerry Adler, a seasoned actor best known for his roles in The Sopranos and The Good Wife, has passed away at the age of 96.
Adler died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday in New York, according to a family announcement confirmed by the Riverside Memorial Chapel.
Adler’s extensive career spanned over 70 years, with a strong background in theatre.
Before transitioning to television, he worked on 53 Broadway productions as a stage manager, producer, or director.
His father, Philip Adler, was a general manager for the Group Theatre and Broadway productions, and his cousin Stella Adler was a legendary acting teacher.
From Theatre to Television
Adler’s theatre career included working on the original production of My Fair Lady and collaborating with renowned stars such as Marlene Dietrich, Julie Andrews, and Richard Burton.
He left Broadway during its 1980s slump and moved to California, where he worked on television productions, including the soap opera Santa Barbara.
A chance encounter with casting director Donna Isaacson led to Adler’s acting career in front of the camera.
He began with an early role on Northern Exposure, which paved the way for his iconic role as Hesh Rabkin on The Sopranos.
Adler went on to appear in numerous television shows, including Rescue Me, Mad About You, Transparent, and guest spots on The West Wing and Broad City.
Adler is survived by his family, who have yet to release a cause of death.
His legacy in the entertainment industry will be remembered for generations to come.
