In a significant breakthrough in the investigation into a fatal hit-and-run incident in Bangalow, New South Wales, police have released footage of a black Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series suspected to be involved in the crash.
The vehicle, believed to be a 2008 to 2012 Sahara model, was captured on CCTV driving north along a main road out of town immediately after the incident.
Police are urging the driver or occupants, or anyone with knowledge of the car, to come forward.
Incident Background
On July 6, 64-year-old Bangalow man Paul Campton was struck and killed by a car that failed to stop on a quiet road in a residential area.
The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning.
Tweed-Byron Police Crime Manager Matt Zimmer has appealed to the driver or occupants of the vehicle to come forward, saying that the investigation will continue until those responsible are brought to justice.
Police Investigation
Inspector Zimmer stated that investigators worked with specialists to narrow down the make and model of the car, which was identified through CCTV footage captured at a service station on Granuaille Road.
Police believe the vehicle may have been visiting someone in the area, and that the driver would have known they had hit something.
The incident was significant, with the vehicle estimated to have been travelling at least 50 kilometres per hour.
Inspector Zimmer urged anyone with information to come forward, citing the devastating impact the incident has had on the victim’s family and the tight-knit community of Bangalow.
