Magda Szubanski Expresses Heartfelt Gratitude to Young Fan amid Cancer Treatment
Australian actor and comedian Magda Szubanski has provided a health update from hospital while undergoing treatment for an aggressive form of blood cancer, stating that her chemotherapy “is smacking me around right now.”
The 64-year-old posted a video on social media on Sunday, thanking a 10-year-old fan for cheering her up by dressing as her iconic Kath & Kim character, Sharon Strzelecki, for Book Week.
Ms. Szubanski revealed in May that she had been diagnosed with stage-four mantle cell lymphoma after a routine breast screen detected swollen lymph nodes.
Her treatment has prevented her from making recent public appearances, including her induction into the Logies Hall of Fame in August.
She accepted the prestigious award via a pre-recorded video message, where she thanked the public for their overwhelming support.
Message to Young Fan
In her video on Sunday, Ms. Szubanski gave a direct shout-out to the young fan from Adelaide.
“I’m in here having chemo and it really cheered me up. I’m really touched and that was a beautiful thing to do,” she said.
The post garnered thousands of messages of support from the public and fellow celebrities, including Nigella Lawson and Dawn French.
