Alex Cullen is making a triumphant return to television, just eight months after a scandal forced him to leave the Nine Network. The veteran presenter has signed with Channel Seven to host a new afternoon news program, marking a significant new chapter in his career.
In a candid interview on Gold 104.3’s Christian O’Connell Show, Cullen revealed the exciting news, stating, “It was a significant day yesterday with me, signing a contract with Seven, which was really exciting. I’m going to be the Afternoon Host on Channel Seven. So we’re going to be taking you through the afternoon from three o’clock.”
The new show, set to launch later this month, aims to target a specific demographic, with Cullen joking, “We’re going to get all the nannas, the pensioners, the stay-at-home mums! We’re going to do something a little bit later in the month.”
When asked about the show’s development, Cullen confessed, “Commercial TV moves at a glacial pace and we want to get this right.” He also brushed off concerns about competing with Channel Nine’s popular game show Tipping Point, saying confidently, “They are doing well… but not for long!”
Cullen’s return to TV comes after a dramatic departure from the Today show, following a controversy surrounding a $50,000 gift from billionaire Adrian Portelli. The incident led to disciplinary action from Nine, and Cullen ultimately stood down from his on-air role.
Despite the setback, Cullen is thrilled to be joining the Seven network, stating, “I’m really excited to be a part of the Seven family.” His radio role on Gold 104.3 will continue alongside his TV comeback.
