Panthers star Brian To’o has been embroiled in a sexism scandal after making ‘gross’ comments about his teammates’ partners on social media. The 27-year-old winger took to Instagram to make X-rated remarks about Mary Fowler, the partner of teammate Nathan Cleary, as well as other players’ wives and girlfriends.
To’o’s comments were made during the club’s best-and-fairest event on Tuesday night, and have since been widely condemned by fans and the club. Many have called for him to be punished for his actions, with some labeling him ‘disgusting’ and ‘unrespectful’.
“Gross,” one fan said in response to To’o’s comments. “He has no respect for the women. He’s a complete tool.”
According to reports, the club has spoken to To’o about his actions, and the player is said to be ‘very sorry’ for his behavior. However, it remains to be seen whether he will face any further punishment.
To’o has a history of controversy, having made headlines in 2022 for singing about a sex act during his wedding ceremony. He has also had a season marred by injury, playing just 13 games due to hamstring and knee complaints.
Despite his recent antics, To’o is set to take his place in the Panthers’ team for their elimination final against the Warriors on Saturday. The match will be his first against former teammate James Fisher-Harris, who became the Warriors’ co-captain this season.
“I’m looking forward to coming up against Fish,” To’o said recently. “It might be my second or first carry to go at him. We’ll just see how we go.”
The Panthers have an elimination final against the Warriors on Saturday, and To’o’s comments are unlikely to help the team’s morale. The club will be hoping that To’o can put his recent controversy behind him and focus on the game ahead.
