Shocking Gym Attack Leaves Young Man Fighting for Life as Two Men Charged Over Brutal Assault

A horrific attack outside a Brisbane gym has left a young man fighting for his life, with two men now charged over the brutal assault. The victim, a 27-year-old from Victoria Point, was rushed to hospital with critical head injuries after the alleged targeted and unprovoked attack on Monday night.
According to police, the assault occurred about 8pm outside a gym on Bunker Rd, with a 22-year-old man from Redland Bay allegedly approaching the victim and physically assaulting him. The young man’s life-threatening injuries have left his family reeling, and detectives are determined to get to the bottom of the shocking attack.
“Investigators were determined to follow all lines of inquiry to apprehend the offenders as quickly as possible and provide some answers to the victim’s family,” said Detective Inspector Wayne Francis. “Police have no tolerance for violent crimes, which often have lifelong impacts for victims and their families.”
The 22-year-old Redland Bay man was taken into custody on Wednesday after detectives executed a search warrant at a home on Cypress St. He has been charged with grievous bodily harm, assault, and contravening an order to access electronically stored information, and has been remanded in custody until September 18.
In a dramatic development, a second man, also 22, from Victoria Point, handed himself in to Bayside Criminal Investigation Branch detectives on Friday. He has been charged with grievous bodily harm and is due to appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday.
As the investigation continues, police are urging anyone with information about the attack to come forward. The community is in shock over the brutal assault, and the victim’s family is holding on to hope for his recovery.
