BREAKING: SA Police Launch Investigation into Employee’s Shocking Social Media Post Celebrating Murder of US Right-Wing Activist Charlie Kirk
- SA Police employee allegedly posted on social media celebrating the assassination of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk
- The employee has defended their actions, claiming they simply “reposted existing online stories”
- Transport Minister Tom Koutsantonis has condemned the celebration of violence, saying “our systems are better than that”
SA Police have launched an investigation into a social media post allegedly made by one of their own employees, celebrating the assassination of US right-wing political activist Charlie Kirk. The post has sparked widespread outrage, with Transport Minister Tom Koutsantonis condemning the celebration of violence.
In a brief statement, SA Police confirmed they were aware of the social media posts and were investigating under the Police Complaints Disciplinary Act. “No further comment will be made,” a spokesperson said.
The employee, who has not been named, defended their actions, claiming they had simply “reposted existing online stories” and did not make any statements. “Other than clearly not mourning this individual, I have barely responded to the hate,” they said.
However, Transport Minister Tom Koutsantonis was quick to condemn the celebration of violence, saying “there’s nothing to celebrate about a man being murdered in cold blood”. “I don’t understand how anyone can celebrate that kind of violence,” he said. “This isn’t about left or right, this is about a man who got assassinated for speaking. Our systems are better than that and we should deplore that kind of violence.”
Kirk died last week after being shot while speaking at a university campus in the US state of Utah. A 22-year-old man has been arrested in relation to the killing.
Minister Koutsantonis expressed his confidence in SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens and the SA Police to “deal” with the investigation.
