In a dramatic crackdown on crime, police have charged nine people with a staggering 114 offences following a series of alleged shootings, burglaries, and violent robberies across south-east Queensland.
The operation, which involved detectives from Gympie and Logan, saw nine “high-risk” search warrants executed between September 11 and 27. The raids resulted in the recovery of two firearms and three stolen vehicles.
Seven men and two women, aged between 21 and 47, were arrested and charged with a range of offences, including armed robbery, assault, car theft, obstructing and evading police, and domestic violence.
“These individuals were involved in violent and highly concerning criminal activity,” Wide Bay Burnett District Crime Group Detective Acting Inspector Steven Watts said. “The outcome of this operation is a testament to the dedication and determination of detectives, and tactical officers to bring these offenders into custody and ensure community safety.”
A 34-year-old Gympie man has been charged with obstructing police, evasion, and domestic violence-related offences and has been remanded in custody to reappear at Gympie Magistrates Court in November. Another 34-year-old Gympie man faces 47 of the 114 charges and has already faced court.
The remaining seven accused are set to face court in Gympie and Beenleigh in the coming months. The charges laid against them are a grim reminder of the devastating impact of crime on the community.
