- Police declare crime scene and appeal for information, as investigation into the tragic deaths gets underway
Emergency services rushed to a luxury Airbnb property in Brisbane’s Kenmore Hills on Monday afternoon, only to discover the lifeless bodies of a 54-year-old mother and her 8-year-old daughter.
The property, listed on the short-term accommodation platform for a staggering $1,000-plus per night, had been rented by the pair, but what should have been a relaxing getaway ended in tragedy.
“Upon arrival, police located a 54-year-old Norman Park woman and an 8-year-old girl, who were known to each other, deceased,” Queensland Police Service (QPS) said in a statement.
A crime scene has been declared, and investigations are underway into the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Police are urging anyone with information or relevant footage to come forward.
Neighbours described the area as “communal” and “friendly”, with one local, Andrew Offen, revealing that the property in question was the only one on the street with temporary tenants. “It’s a perfect place to live, really,” he said.
Another long-time resident, Dirk Vandenbroucke, expressed shock at the sudden incident, saying: “We didn’t hear much until there was a lot of [police] activity in the street… Then we were told something serious happened.”
As the investigation continues, police have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to safety. If you or anyone you know needs help, please reach out to the crisis helplines listed below.
