A ‘caring and loving’ Brisbane father’s shocking torture and murder has left his family and community reeling, as three men face charges over his brutal killing. Andrew Burow, 56, was allegedly taken from his Kelvin Grove home in late August and subjected to a horrific five-day ordeal before his remains were found dumped in a remote area.
Police launched a massive investigation after Mr Burow’s family raised the alarm when he failed to attend important events, sparking a search that spanned multiple locations across South East Queensland. Detectives allege that Mr Burow was tortured and murdered in a targeted attack, with his body eventually found on Pimpimbugie Rd at Maidenwell on September 2.
‘He’d missed a couple of family celebrations, there were multiple text messages that they were sending to Andrew that he didn’t respond to,’ Detective Acting Inspector Murray O’Connell said. ‘Because of that… they were obviously concerned about him and that’s what prompted them to contact us to report him missing.’
As police dug deeper, they uncovered a trail of evidence that led them to the three accused men. A search of a home in Bli Bli turned up alcohol wipes, zip ties, a mobile phone, and a piece of paper with Mr Burow’s parents’ names and addresses. Photographic evidence also revealed the shocking extent of Mr Burow’s injuries, with police alleging he was ‘severely beaten’ during his captivity.
In a statement, Mr Burow’s family paid tribute to their loved one, describing him as a ‘caring and loving father, a loyal and generous son and brother, and someone who was always willing to give people a second chance’. They thanked police for their tireless work and encouraged anyone with information to come forward.
‘We will miss his enthusiasm for life, his entrepreneurial mindset, and his willingness to give ideas a go,’ the family said. ‘While terrible things can happen to good people, it’s been comforting to experience these officers’ deep care and focus on a safe and just society.’
