Furious Pauline Hanson Unleashes on Aussie Supermarkets Over ‘Rip-Off’ 25c Paper Bags: ‘I’m Over It, I’m So Angry!’
- One Nation leader Pauline Hanson slams supermarkets for ‘fleecing’ customers with flimsy paper bags that break easily
- Hanson demands to know why supermarkets are charging 25c for bags that ‘aren’t saving the planet’
- The controversial politician calls for a return to trusty plastic bags, claiming paper bags are ‘highway robbery’
Pauline Hanson has ignited a furious debate over the quality of paper bags provided by Australian supermarkets, labelling them a ‘rip-off’ and calling for a return to trusty plastic bags. The One Nation leader took to social media to express her outrage, posting a video of a Woolworths paper bag splitting at the seams under the weight of a loaf of bread and a thick cut steak.
‘I’m sure most of you have found yourself in my shoes with these stupid, flimsy paper bags from the supermarkets,’ Hanson fumed. ‘You can’t tell me they cost the supermarkets 25 cents each, either. It’s highway robbery for cheap rot that isn’t saving the planet.’
Hanson’s impassioned rant has sparked a heated discussion, with many agreeing that the paper bags are subpar and that supermarkets are prioritising profits over customer convenience. ‘It’s hypocritical that supermarkets want to reduce plastic but still sell collectables, which are made of plastic,’ one commenter argued. Others defended the paper bags, saying they were an improvement on the old single-use plastic bags.
Woolworths has responded to Hanson’s criticism, stating that their paper bags have been available since 2020 and that they encourage customers to bring their own reusable bags. The supermarket giant claims to have removed over 9,000 tonnes of plastic from circulation annually by phasing out single-use plastic bags.
However, Hanson remains unconvinced, citing the high cost of living and the need for supermarkets to take responsibility for their environmental impact. ‘I’m over it, I’m so angry about this,’ she said. ‘Bring back the trusty plastic bags!’
