- German mayor Iris Stalzer, 57, found with 13 stab wounds and severely burnt in her home
- Her 17-year-old adopted daughter initially claimed mother was attacked by unknown men
- But Stalzer later revealed she was tortured for hours by her own daughter in the basement
In a horrific case of domestic violence, a German mayor has been left fighting for her life after being brutally attacked by her own adopted children.
Iris Stalzer, 57, a respected lawyer and newly elected mayor of Herdecke, was found critically injured in her home on October 7. Her 17-year-old adopted daughter had called emergency services, claiming her mother had been attacked by several unknown men.
However, a shocking twist emerged when Stalzer, who had suffered 13 stab wounds and severe burns, revealed to police that she was tortured for hours by her own daughter in the basement of her home.
According to investigators, the daughter used two knives to attack Stalzer and even attempted to set her hair and clothes on fire using a deodorant spray and a lighter.
Forensic teams discovered signs of a botched clean-up, with large bloodstains found in the home. The bloodstained clothing was later linked to the 15-year-old adopted son, who was taken in for questioning.
Despite the severity of Stalzer’s injuries, prosecutors are not pursuing attempted murder charges against her daughter, citing a “withdrawal from the act” under German law.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and both adopted children are now under the care of child protection services.
Stalzer’s ordeal has sent shockwaves through the community, with many left wondering how such a brutal attack could have occurred in a quiet German town.
