In a dramatic turn of events, Peter Damjanovic has pleaded guilty to the murder of his ex-partner Tiffany Woodley, who was brutally bludgeoned to death with a towel rail in her Bedford home in 2023. The 39-year-old appeared in court via video link from Hakea Prison, where he has been held since his arrest.
The court had previously heard that Damjanovic was intoxicated on the afternoon of the attack, and had beaten Ms Woodley following an argument. He then called triple-zero and emerged from the house covered in blood, telling police “I’m a murderer” as he was arrested at the scene.
Prosecutor Katrin Robinson described the assault as “vicious” and said it occurred “in the context of family violence”. The court also heard that Damjanovic had been living on the streets after being kicked out of St Patrick’s homeless service in Fremantle.
Tiffany Woodley’s death sparked widespread community outrage, with vigils held in the city and calls for the government to take urgent action to better protect domestic abuse victims and prevent future deaths. Ms Woodley was remembered as a “caring and loving” mother of three, who had taken out multiple violence restraining orders against Damjanovic in the months leading up to her death.
Damjanovic is due to appear at a sentencing hearing in March next year. The case has highlighted the need for urgent action to address the scourge of domestic violence in our community, and to ensure that victims like Tiffany Woodley receive the protection and support they deserve.
As the community comes to terms with the shocking details of Ms Woodley’s murder, one thing is clear: justice must be served, and those responsible for such heinous crimes must be held accountable.
