A bloody day of chaos erupted in a Bunnings car park in Victoria when a man and woman allegedly embarked on a terrifying rampage, attempting to carjack FOUR separate vehicles in a brazen display of lawlessness.
The drama began earlier when police spotted a stolen grey Haval on Dorcas and Moray streets in South Melbourne about 1.15pm. Moments later, a man and woman allegedly drove off in the car, sparking a high-speed chase along the Princes Freeway towards Norlane.
In a heart-stopping moment, the stolen car nearly collided with a woman getting a pram out of her car in the Bunnings car park on the Princess Highway in Norlane, Geelong. The would-be carjacker then got out of the stolen Haval and allegedly attempted to commandeer four separate vehicles, leaving shoppers shaken.
Police arrested the man about 2.45pm after a dramatic pursuit. The 20-year-old Abbotsford man was loaded into an ambulance and taken to hospital under police guard. His accomplice, a 25-year-old Abbotsford woman, was chased by police into the hardware store, where she was arrested shortly after.
The woman was charged with theft of motor vehicle and possess a drug of dependence and was bailed to appear at Geelong Magistrates’ Court on November 18. The stolen Haval was allegedly taken from the Port Melbourne area on October 6.
In a remarkable development, no members of the public were physically injured in the ordeal. The incident has left many in the community reeling, and police are still trying to piece together the events that led to the shocking rampage.
