Tragedy on Hammond Street: Two Women Killed, One Left Fighting for Life in Horror Bellingen Crash

A devastating car crash in the quiet town of Bellingen has left a community in shock and mourning after two women lost their lives and a third was left seriously injured. The horror smash occurred on Thursday afternoon when a silver Subaru Forester veered off the road and slammed into two parked cars on Hammond Street.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, and bystanders sprang into action, performing CPR on the two passengers until paramedics arrived. Despite their best efforts, a 78-year-old female passenger was declared dead at the scene. The second passenger, an 89-year-old woman, was stabilised by paramedics and taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital in critical condition, but tragically died of her injuries in hospital on Friday.
The 64-year-old driver, who was also injured in the crash, was conveyed to the same hospital in a serious but stable condition. Police are still investigating the cause of the crash and are appealing for anyone with information or dashcam and CCTV footage to come forward.
‘It’s a terrible tragedy, and our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims,’ said a police spokesperson. ‘We urge anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information to contact us immediately.’
The community is still reeling from the shock of the crash, and locals are paying tribute to the victims. ‘It’s just devastating,’ said one resident. ‘Our thoughts are with the families, and we hope the driver makes a full recovery.’
