A Queensland community is reeling in shock after a three-year-old boy died in the foyer of a police station following a horrific car crash on Saturday morning. The tragedy unfolded on Burnside Road at Ormeau, south of Brisbane, when emergency services were called to the scene just before 5am.
According to police, a witness helped a 22-year-old woman and the child from the vehicle and transported them to the Beenleigh Police Station. However, the toddler’s condition rapidly deteriorated, and he became unresponsive in the police station foyer. Despite the valiant efforts of officers who performed CPR, the boy sadly passed away.
In a disturbing twist, a 24-year-old man, believed to have been in the vehicle, had fled the scene with a one-year-old boy before police arrived. The man and the young child were later found at a Beenleigh address at around 6:30am, and the man is currently assisting police with their enquiries.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson revealed that the one-year-old boy was taken to Logan Hospital in a stable condition. As the investigation into the crash continues, multiple crime scenes have been established, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
The Beenleigh Police Station has since reopened, and police have reassured the community that there is no ongoing threat. The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the community, and an outpouring of grief is expected in the coming days.
