A sombre mood has descended over the small town of Burrumbeet in western Victoria, as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding a horror truck and car collision that claimed the life of a woman and left three others fighting for their lives.
The devastating crash occurred on the Western Highway, near the intersection of Remembrance Drive, around 3am on Saturday. Emergency services were quickly called to the scene, but despite their best efforts, a woman inside the car was pronounced dead.
Two other female passengers in the car were taken to hospital with serious injuries, while the male driver of the car was hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries. The male truck driver, who stopped at the scene, miraculously escaped without injury.
Police have launched an investigation into the collision, with detectives working to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy. “Investigations are ongoing into the circumstances of the collision,” a police spokesperson said.
