A neighbour of the alleged Bondi Beach massacre perpetrators has broken her silence, painting a chilling picture of the ‘weird’ father and son duo behind the deadly attack. The neighbour, who wishes to remain anonymous, described Sajid and Naveed Akram as ‘very quiet people’ who kept to themselves, rarely acknowledging those around them.
‘He doesn’t say hello or talk to anyone,’ the neighbour revealed, referring to Naveed. ‘They are just weird people… They don’t say hello to anyone.’ Her words have sparked a flurry of questions about the motives behind the senseless attack, which left 15 innocent lives lost, including two rabbis, a 10-year-old girl, and a Holocaust survivor.
As the community struggles to come to terms with the tragedy, Naveed’s mother has spoken out, defending her son’s character. ‘He doesn’t have a firearm. He doesn’t even go out. He doesn’t mix around with friends. He doesn’t drink, he doesn’t smoke, he doesn’t go to bad places,’ she said, adding that her son was a ‘good boy’ who went to work, came home, and exercised.
But a disturbing picture is emerging of the pair’s secret lives. It is understood that Naveed told his mother he and his father had gone to Jervis Bay for a fishing trip, a claim that has since been revealed as a ruse. ‘He rings me up and said, ‘Mum, I just went for a swim. I went scuba diving. We’re going… to eat now’,’ she recalled, still reeling from the shock of her son’s involvement in the massacre.
As the investigation continues, the community remains on high alert, grappling with the aftermath of the senseless attack. Lifeline and beyondblue are urging those affected to reach out for support, as the nation mourns the loss of innocent lives.
