HIT-AND-RUN HORROR: Cyclist, 42, Dies After Being Mowed Down by Fleeing Driver in Newcastle

Tragedy struck on Sunday morning when emergency crews rushed to the intersection of the Pacific Hwy and Awabakal Dr at Nords Wharf, responding to reports of a cyclist being struck by a vehicle.
According to police, the 42-year-old rider collided with a black Toyota FJ Cruiser, which then callously fled the scene, leaving the cyclist for dead.
Paramedics treated the critically injured cyclist at the scene before rushing him to John Hunter Hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning.
“The driver of the Toyota FJ Cruiser allegedly involved in the crash is urged to come forward and assist investigators,” a police spokesperson said. “We are also appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers.”
A crime scene was established at the intersection, and specialist crash investigators are now painstakingly piecing together the events leading up to the fatal crash.
