Victoria’s First Lady of Politics Embroiled in Shocking Drink-Driving Scandal: Premier Jacinta Allan’s Husband Caught Behind the Wheel with Booze in His System
- Premier Jacinta Allan’s husband Yorick Piper faces three-month licence disqualification after being caught drink-driving in Bendigo
- Piper blew 0.05 per cent on a random breath test, just above the legal limit, after celebrating their son’s birthday the night before
- The shocking incident has left the Premier “truly sorry” and has sparked a donation to a road trauma charity to make amends
Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan has been left reeling after her husband Yorick Piper was caught drink-driving on his way to a supermarket in Bendigo yesterday morning. The 0.05 per cent blood alcohol concentration reading has resulted in an on-the-spot fine and a three-month licence disqualification from January 16.
In a dramatic twist, Piper had been celebrating their son’s birthday with family at a local pub the evening prior, before heading home around 8pm. But the combination of alcohol and medication for a health issue proved a deadly mix, leaving him unfit to drive the next morning.
“I was shocked,” Allan confessed in a heartfelt admission. “I was shocked yesterday when Yorick told me yesterday morning what had happened. As a result of the medication mixing with the alcohol from the night before, he simply shouldn’t have been driving the following morning.”
To make matters worse, Piper was involved in a minor collision prior to being stopped at the RBT, rear-ending another vehicle at the T-intersection of Spring Gully Road and Carpenter Street. Miraculously, neither driver was injured, and the pair exchanged details.
In a gesture of remorse, the couple has made a $1000 donation to Amber Community, a non-profit that provides support and information around road trauma. “Drink driving is an incredibly serious issue and so is road trauma,” Allan said. “We recognise that and I am truly sorry.”
