- Investigation underway, but authorities say the death is not believed to be suspicious
A sense of devastation has settled over a small community in Adelaide’s north after a precious infant was found unresponsive in a family home, only to be pronounced dead despite the best efforts of emergency responders.
Police and paramedics were called to the property in Gawler around 7:30pm on Saturday night, responding to reports of a child in distress. The emergency crews worked tirelessly to revive the baby, but their desperate efforts were ultimately in vain.
“The emergency services did everything they could, but sadly, the baby couldn’t be saved,” a police spokesperson said. “It’s a heartbreaking development, and our thoughts are with the family during this incredibly difficult time.”
The Barossa Police and Northern District CIB attended the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. While the inquiry is ongoing, authorities believe the death is not suspicious.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner, who will examine the events leading up to the baby’s passing. As the community comes to terms with this shattering loss, one thing is clear: this Christmas will be forever marred by tragedy for one family.
