- A driver has lost his life in a devastating crash with a milk truck on the South Gippsland Hwy, near Lang Lang, just over an hour southeast of Melbourne.
- The horror smash, which occurred just before 1pm on Monday, has left the community in shock and sparked a major investigation into the cause of the tragedy.
- The milk truck driver was rushed to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, but the driver of the car was tragically killed at the scene.
- The South Gippsland Hwy has been closed in both directions, causing chaos for motorists and leaving many to detour through nearby towns.
The accident occurred at the intersection of the South Gippsland Hwy and the Bass Hwy, near the rural town of Lang Lang, at approximately 12:55pm on Monday. Witnesses described the scene as “absolute carnage” as the car and milk truck collided, resulting in the tragic loss of life.
The driver of the car, who has not been formally identified, was the sole occupant of the vehicle and died at the scene. The milk truck driver, who was taken to hospital with injuries, is said to be in a stable condition.
VicTraffic has warned motorists to expect significant delays and has advised drivers to detour through nearby towns to avoid the closed section of highway. “Motorists driving between Caldermeade and Nyora should detour through Lang Lang, using Westernport Rd, McDonalds Track, Heylens Rd, Yannathan Rd, Watts Rd and Lang Lang-Poowong Rd, allowing extra travel time,” VicTraffic said in a statement.
The cause of the crash is still unknown, but investigators are working to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy. The South Gippsland Hwy remains closed in both directions, with motorists advised to exercise caution and follow detour signs.
As the investigation continues, the community is left to mourn the loss of a life and pray for the recovery of the injured milk truck driver. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of our roads and the importance of safe driving practices.
