Bushfire Terror: “Leave Now” Alert Issued as Inferno Bears Down on Boddington Townsite – Residents in Path of Destruction Told to Flee for Their Lives
- Desperate residents in fire-threatened areas southeast of Perth are being urged to evacuate IMMEDIATELY as a raging bushfire threatens to engulf the townsite of Boddington
- The out-of-control inferno has already burned through 17sqkm of land, with firefighters warning of a “threat to lives and homes” and urging people to flee towards Williams
- Multiple roads have been closed, including Gold Mine Access Rd and Bannister Marradong Rd, as the fire continues to move in a southeasterly direction, burning embers posing a risk of additional spot fires
Panic has gripped residents in the Shire of Boddington as a devastating bushfire bears down on the townsite, with firefighters issuing a desperate “Leave Now” alert on Friday morning.
“The bushfire is moving towards the Boddington townsite,” the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) warned, as the fire continued to rage out of control. “Weather conditions are assisting firefighting efforts however wind changes are expected in the coming hours, and the fire behaviour is likely to escalate.”
In a stark warning, DFES urged residents to take immediate action to survive. “There remains a threat to lives and homes,” the alert read. “The safest option is still to leave the area towards Williams. You are in danger and need to act immediately to survive.”
As the fire continues to burn, residents in the Boddington townsite have been told they can still use Crossman Rd to travel east and leave the area. An evacuation centre has been set up at the Williams Sports Pavilion on the corner of Pinjarra-Williams Rd and Albany Hwy, as Boddington Hospital remains closed until further notice.
Residents in the vicinity have been urged to keep up to date with the latest information and advice on the Emergency WA website, as the situation continues to unfold. Other areas in the Shire of Boddington have also been issued a Watch and Act alert, as the community remains on high alert.
