A sombre Christmas Eve has turned to tragedy for one family after a teenager was killed in a horror car crash on the NSW Mid North Coast. The vehicle, carrying three teenage males, careered off Diamond Head Road at Coralville, about 35km north of Taree, and slammed into a tree at 2.45pm on Wednesday.
In a devastating development, one passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver and another passenger were treated by paramedics before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital. The pair remains in a critical but stable condition, leaving family and friends holding out for a miracle.
“It’s a terrible reminder of the risks on our roads, especially during the holiday period,” a NSW Police spokesperson said. “We urge anyone with information, or who may have witnessed the crash, to contact us. Every piece of evidence counts in our investigation.”
As the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash gets underway, police have established a crime scene and are reviewing dashcam and mobile phone footage from the area. The exact ages of the teenagers involved are yet to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, the small community of Coralville is reeling from the tragedy, with neighbours and locals coming to terms with the loss of a young life. “It’s just shocking,” one resident said. “You never expect something like this to happen on Christmas Eve. Our hearts go out to the family.”
