A quiet suburban street in Sydney’s north west was transformed into a scene of utter devastation on Sunday morning, as a couple in their 30s were stabbed in a frenzied attack at their home on Illabo St in Quakers Hill.
Distraught calls to police about a “disturbance” at the property came in around 5am, with officers arriving to find a man, aged in his 30s, lying on the footpath outside with life-threatening stab wounds.
Paramedics rushed to his aid, treating him for his injuries before he was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries just hours later, at around 9am.
But the horror didn’t end there. Inside the home, police found a woman, also in her 30s, who had been stabbed to death. The couple have yet to be formally identified by police.
As detectives began to piece together the events of the morning, a 47-year-old man walked into Blacktown Police Station and was arrested, allegedly in connection with the stabbings. He has yet to be charged, with investigations continuing.
“A crime scene has been established,” police said in a statement. “Detectives have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
The community is in shock, with neighbours left reeling from the brutal attack. “It’s just devastating,” one local resident said. “You never expect something like this to happen in your own backyard.”
Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward, as they work to unravel the events of that fateful morning.
