In a heart-stopping development, police divers are braving the murky waters of Darwin Harbour, where a saltwater crocodile was recently sighted, in a desperate bid to recover the body of an unidentified man. The search has entered its third day, with authorities leaving no stone unturned in their quest to find the missing person.
According to Acting Senior Sergeant Chris Harden, the body was first spotted floating in the water near an anchored military vessel about 6:30pm on Sunday. However, it vanished beneath the surface shortly after the arrival of officers, leaving behind only a trail of unanswered questions.
“A crocodile was sighted in the water by helicopter, so the brave souls that are going to get in the water, good luck to them,” Acting Senior Sergeant Harden told reporters on Tuesday, his voice laced with concern for the divers’ safety.
The search operation has been nothing short of massive, with air, water, and ground teams combing the area for any sign of the missing man. A helicopter, jet skis, and surf life savers have all been deployed in the hunt, with a crocodile management team on standby as a precaution.
Police are urging anyone with concerns for a person who has failed to attend appointments or has been uncontactable, particularly in the Darwin Harbour area, to come forward with information. The man is described as being Caucasian, with a slim build and medium-length grey hair, last seen wearing a light-coloured shirt.
As the search continues, police are refusing to rule out any possibilities in terms of the man’s death, leaving the community on edge as they wait for answers.
