Police are on the hunt for a group of teenagers wanted over a brutal machete attack in a Melbourne park that left two brothers, 15, with serious injuries. The victims were lured to the park in Caroline Springs on December 30, where they were ambushed by a gang of 11 teenagers, including one armed with a machete.
In a shocking turn of events, investigators have revealed that the attack was sparked by an online argument between the brothers and the teenagers, who did not know each other. The offenders, aged between 15 and 18, arrived at the park in a black Ford Ranger ute with false number plates, and fled the scene after the attack.
‘It was a completely senseless and brutal attack,’ said a police spokesperson. ‘We urge anyone with information to come forward and help us bring these offenders to justice.’
The victims, who suffered significant slash wounds to the arm and back, and facial injuries, were rushed to hospital and are recovering from their ordeal. Police are appealing for anyone who may recognise some of the distinctive clothing worn by the offenders to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
CCTV captured eight offenders leaving the scene in the black Ford Ranger ute, while the other three were last seen running towards Lorimer Street. Police have released vision of the offenders, who are described as being of African appearance, and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
‘We believe that someone in the community knows who these offenders are, and we urge them to come forward and help us bring them to justice,’ said the police spokesperson.
