In response to allegations of price gouging, Woolworths has announced that it will reduce the prices of hundreds of its products.
The company claimed that it would be reducing the prices of around 400 items, which include cheese, meat, and fruit. It is believed that the cuts were aimed at families.
Some of the best deals include a 400g bag of meatballs which used to cost $8. It is now $6.
A 500g pack of heart-healthy stir-fry beef is down from $12 to $10, and fruit and vegetable packs are also cheaper.
However, West Australians will not be able to benefit from the price cuts as they are not included in the list of products that are available in the region.
In addition, Western Australia will be the only state to benefit from the price cuts.
According to Paul Harker, the company’s chief commercial officer, the lower prices will allow families to save money on food and other items.
He said that the company wanted to help its customers manage their budgets.
This comes after a difficult month for Woolworths. Its chief executive officer Brad Banducci announced his intention to retire early due to the allegations of price gouging.
The company, along with its rival, Coles, will be participating in an investigation by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
The ACCC is looking into the industry to determine if price gouging is occurring.
Both companies have maintained that their pricing is affected by the cost pressures that they are experiencing due to their workforce and suppliers.
