In a major change to its packaging, supermarket giant Coles has announced that it will no longer require the use of plastic bottle seals on its home-brand milk bottles.
The move will see around 10,000 kilograms of plastic taken off the country’s circulation.
The seals, which were previously used to prevent the bottles from leaking, were removed after the company upgraded its design.
A spokesperson for the company said that while they were originally used to prevent the bottles from leaking, the design had improved over time.
A spokesperson for Coles stated that the company is always looking for new ways to reduce plastic waste.
While the seals were originally implemented to prevent bottles from leaking, they have since been removed due to the company’s new packaging design.
The spokesperson noted that the company would remove over 10,000 kilograms of plastic from the country’s circulation once the change is implemented nationally.
Some of the company’s suppliers have already removed the seals, and the company is working on the rollout of the change in other states.
