Over the course of several months, Australian mining magnate Gina Rinehart has given out millions of dollars in cash prizes to her employees.
The prizes were given during her recent 70th birthday celebrations and at her company’s Christmas party.
Rinehart’s company has over 4,000 workers, and she gave away prizes of $100,000 each to 70 of them.
Employees are usually given gifts by the mining magnate. Last year, 41 of them received $100,000 each to celebrate the 41st year of Rinehart’s employment.
In 2022, Rinehart surprised 10 of her Roy Hill employees with a Christmas bonus of $100,000.
She reportedly said that she would call 10 individuals out of a hat and give them the money.
An employee from the company confirmed that one of the lucky recipients had only been with the organization for a couple of months.
Rinehart came up with the idea of the Chairman’s Profit Scheme for her employees in 2018, which was designed to reward them for their hard work.
The company’s majority owner, Hancock Prospecting, makes the profits and distributes them annually to the workers.
She is Australia’s richest person with a wealth of over $30 billion.
