A woman, who is 37 years old, said her life has become a nightmare after she was trolled online for revealing she was single and didn’t have kids.
Emily Hart has a following on social media for documenting her life as a solo traveler.
Despite being happy with her life on the road, she was targeted by online users for revealing she was single.
The individuals who bombarded Ms. Hart’s post claimed that she deluded herself into thinking that she was happy.
In a statement shared by Today.com, she wrote that she woke up to find hundreds of hateful comments from both men and women.
They told her that she would die alone and that no one would want her.
According to Ms Hart, who goes by the handle @emilyventures, the overwhelming amount of people who followed her on Instagram made it hard to block or delete her posts. In one of her videos, she showed herself at various locations she has visited. The title of her post, which was criticized by people who claimed to believe in traditional gender roles, was “Age 37: No Kids.” She stated that it has affected her mental health.
In her statement, Ms Hart said that it was not normal for her to experience such a barrage of negativity online. She tried to explain to her friends, but the reality is that not many people would experience such an overwhelming amount of negativity. She noted that during the first week, she didn’t get enough sleep. Despite the backlash she hoped the message would stop, she still received hate emails and comments.
In her essay, she stated that feminism had “deluded” her into thinking that she was happy. Another person claimed that she was just a big child who had no responsibility and was a pathetic cow. After sharing her piece on Today, she received a positive response.
According to Ms Hart, the response to her essay has been uplifting, with many women reaching out to her to relate. Despite the negativity she experienced, she decided to continue traveling. She noted that she has visited all 50 US states and every national park. She is also sharing her experiences to raise awareness about cyber bullying.
Hart claims that she intends to use her experiences to help others, asserting that honesty and vulnerability are the key to doing so.
