On Wednesday, world number one tennis player Novak Djokovic revealed that he and Goran Ivanisevic are separating.
The former Croatian player joined Djokovic’s coaching team in 2019 as a part of their preparations for the upcoming Wimbledon.
Although they had some ups and down moments, they were able to make a huge impact.
Their relationship lasted for five years, during which time they won a total of 12 grand slam titles.
They managed to stay together through various dark moments in Djokovic’s life. It came two years after he split from Marian Vajda, who had been his coach for 14 years.
In the past couple of years, various rumors have been circulating about the personal life of the tennis star.
One of these was the speculation that he had cheated on his wife, Jelena. Despite his success on the court, the 36-year-old player still finds it difficult to find another spark in his life.
In 2019, Djokovic started the year poorly, losing in the Australian Open’s semi-finals to Jannik Sinner of Italy.
Then, he was beaten by Luca Nardi, a relatively unknown player from Italy, during the third round of the Indian Wells tournament.
The Serbian star then decided to withdraw from the Miami Open.
In a post on Instagram, Djokovic revealed that he and his coach had decided to end their relationship.
Although their on-court chemistry did not always work, they remained friends.
He also noted that they would sometimes compete against each other in a game known as Parchisi.
In his post, which was filled with love and gratitude, the Serbian star noted that the tournament that he and his coach have always been able to win would not be possible without the help of Ivanisevic. He also thanked the former Croatian player for his contributions to the team.
