One month after Molly the Magpie was seized by authorities, his family was given hope that he would be returned.
The Department of Science and Innovation in Queensland claimed that the bird was being kept illegally. It left his owners, including Ruby and Peggy, devastated.
DESI then reached out to the couple and told them that they were working with the Premier of Queensland, Steven Miles, on finding a solution to the situation.
Although DESI did not provide them with a precise location where Molly was kept, they noted that they were working with veterinarians to ensure that the bird was happy and healthy.
Peggy, however, said they would like to see video or photos of the bird to see how he was doing.
Before the bird was taken, Molly had gained a following on social media due to his close relationship with Peggy and her puppy, Ruby.
His owners, Reece and Juliette, shared various videos and photos of the two of them together.
Following his removal, Today revealed that Ruby and Peggy have become depressed.
According to Juliette, the pair are still coping with the loss of their best friend.
She said that Ruby has been sleeping with the bird and that they have a puppet that they can use to cuddle it.
After revealing that their previous permit application for the bird was rejected by DESI, Reece said that he is still waiting for a decision regarding the training of the bird.
He said that they are still trying to figure out what they can do to get the bird back.
At this point, they are unsure of the nature of the training that will be involved.
