Hundreds of dead horses have been discovered at a property in NSW’ Riverina region.
The bodies of more than 500 animals were found in a creek bed.
The local council of Wagga Wagga, which is coordinating with the police in the investigation, said it was deeply affected by the incident.
It was revealed during the inspection that the slaughtering of the animals had been occurring for a significant amount of time.
Multiple carcasses were found scattered throughout the property.
After the authorities learned about the operation, they started investigating the matter and gathering evidence for possible regulatory actions and penalties.
The council noted that some of the dead horses had been killed recently.
