Muhammad Taha, the security guard who saved his friend during the mass stabbing attack at Sydney’s Bondi, said he was overwhelmed by the government’s decision to grant him permanent residency.
He was recovering in hospital after being stabbed in the stomach.
According to The Australian, the government had contacted him and told him that they would start the process for his permanent residency.

According to Prime Minister Anthony, Andrew Giles, the minister for immigration, had contacted Mr Taha and expressed his confidence that his visa issues would be resolved.
Mr Taha put himself at risk to protect the people in the area.
According to Mr Albanese, he is confident that the matter will be resolved on Friday.
He also stated that the minister had contacted Mr Taha and wished him a quick recovery.
The Prime Minister said that the government was still going through the various processes related to Mr Taha’s case.

The Prime Minister praised Mr Taha for his bravery and noted that he was the type of character that the government wanted to see continue contributing to Australia. His request to extend his permanent residency came after the government announced that French actor Damien Guerot was also welcome to stay in the country as long as he liked.
In an interview with The Australian, Mr Taha said he was disappointed that he wasn’t given a permanent residency offer by the Prime Minister. He noted that he deserved to be considered for citizenship.
Besides Mr Taha, the other security guards who came to the aid of the victims during the incident should also be given citizenship. Mr Taha was able to confront Cauchi after he started stabbing the female shoppers at the mall.
Mr Taha was on a graduate visa, which was due to end in a couple of weeks. In his interview, the prime minister praised the country’s multicultural character. He said that it was important that people look after each other.
