The mother of a teenager who committed suicide after years of being bullied said her family is brokenhearted by the incident.
Bailey Cooper, who was 17 years old, killed herself on Sunday in a small town in Western Australia.
According to Keira Skeet, Bailey’s mother, the constant bullying led to her mental health issues.
She was sent home from school before she committed suicide.
The goal was to get her out of the toxic environment.
Even though Bailey’s death has put a halt to the online bullying that she had been subjected to, her mother said it has not stopped.
She said the whole system is a joke, and the people who are supposed to be helping her are not being done.
Bailey’s mother urged the people who were involved in the bullying to understand the repercussions of their actions and words.
To honor her life, the hashtag #forever17 was created on social media.
One of her friends posted a message to Bailey, saying that she will always be in their hearts.
A GoFundMe page has also been set up to help raise money for the funeral of Bailey.
According to her mother, it would cost a lot to hold a simple and beautiful funeral for Bailey.
Her death came just a few days after it was revealed that a 10-year-old boy also took his own life.
The child, who was in foster care with his relatives, died in Perth on Friday. He was the fourth youngest of six children taken away by the Department of Communities due to concerns about their parents’ substance abuse problems.
Reports about the child’s death sparked discussions about the issue of child removals and the high rate of suicide among Torres Strait Islanders and Aboriginal people.
