A teenager from the Northern Territory caught a 67-cm barramundi during a fish competition, which instantly became a millionaire.
The lucky winner, named Keegan Payne, called the hotline at 1 am to tell them that he had won.
According to Payne, they almost crashed their boat into the ramp after they caught the massive fish.
The annual competition, which is organized by the Northern Territory Government, involves releasing hundreds of barramundi into various waterways in the country.
During the start of the competition’s ninth season, Sportsbet, the event’s sponsor, said it would introduce new initiatives that would guarantee a winner.
After revealing that it would release over 80 million dollars worth of fish in various locations, such as Darwin, Katherine, Tiwi Islands, Kakadu, and Arnhem Land, people’s chances of winning increased.
Like many Australians, Payne struggled with financial issues. He said that since he and his family were now able to enjoy a million dollars, they no longer have to make any complaints.
He also joked that he would like to help his parents with their home loans. He added that he was hoping to purchase a new car and boat.
He also donated $10,000 to the Cancer Council of the Northern Territory.
The ninth Million Dollar Fish season ends on April 30.
Eight competitors have already caught $10,000 prizes.
One lucky individual managed to catch two fish.
