Three tourists from Australia, including two brothers, were killed by thieves while they were surfing in Mexico.
The victims were identified as Jake Robinson, 30, his brother Callum, 33, and Carter Rhoad, 30. Their bodies were found in a well.
The bodies were discovered in a well that’s about 15 meters underground. The local attorney-general’s office confirmed the victims’ identities on Sunday.
They were identified after a regional official said the parents had arrived.
A fourth body was also found in the well, which had been there for a much longer time.
The three men disappeared last weekend while they were camping and surfing near the city of Esenada. Their friend Andrade Ramirez said the trip ended in tragedy.
According to her, the thieves spotted the tents and pickup truck of the victims and tried to steal their tires.
She said the victims resisted and were shot to death. They then dumped their bodies into the well, which she believed they knew well.
Andrade Ramirez noted that the thieves may have also dumped the body of the first victim in the well, as they were looking for trucks in the area.
The bodies were discovered near a township in Santo Tomas. This was close to where the campers’ pickup truck and tents were found on the coast.
Even though the photos posted by the victims appeared to be perfect, many local residents are questioning the safety of camping along the deserted coast.
The moderator of a local online forum said that the risks associated with traveling and camping in remote locations are now outweighing the benefits.
On Friday, the prosecutors’ office in the state of Baja California said that three people had been arrested in connection with the case. However, it wasn’t clear if they would face additional charges. It was reported that one of the suspects was allegedly involved in the killings.
Debra Robinson, the mother of the missing Australians, posted an appeal on a Facebook page for help in finding her sons, who haven’t been seen since April 27. She said that Jake and Callum, who were diabetic, had booked a room in Rosarito.
According to Debra, Jack Carter Rhoad, an American, was with them. The US Embassy in Mexico could not confirm or confirm that. The State Department was aware of the reports of a missing US citizen in Baja, but it did not provide further details. Two years ago, Australian surfers Dean Lucas and Adam Coleman were murdered near the Sea of Cortez in Sinaloa.
