After defeating Coretin Moutet in the first round of the Italian Open on Friday, Novak Djokovic hit his head on a water bottle while he was signing autographs for fans.
According to reports, an aluminum-type bottle fell from a spectator’s backpack and hit the Serbian tennis star.
After falling to the ground, Djokovic grabbed his head and remained in pain until he was helped down the tunnel and was ushered to the locker room.
Both the tournament’s organizers and Djokovic noted that the incident was an accident.
The player was then taken to a hospital for precautionary tests.
After the incident, which happened during his signing session, the top-ranked tennis player posted on his social media platforms that he was fine and was resting at his hotel.
Since he fell during the Monte Carlo Masters’ semi-final match against Ruud, he has not been able to play tennis.
Despite being a multiple champion in Italy, he hasn’t won a title this year.
