A man who won a huge lottery prize in the US reportedly stiffed his family out of their share of the money.
He also backpedaled on his promise to set up a trust fund for his father and pay for his medical bills.
The man, who purchased the winning ticket in the town of Lebanon, Maine, on January 13 has been in a dispute with his daughter’s mother since November.
He claims that she violated their non-disclosure agreement by revealing details of his new wealth before his daughter’s 18th birthday.
According to the man’s mother, who goes by the pseudonym Sara Smith, he was the one who revealed details of the winning ticket to his family.
In response, the man’s father said that his son told them about the winning ticket before he started talking about what he would do with the money.
According to the outlet, he was able to collect a lump sum of around $750 million.
In court documents, the father noted that his son came to his house in February or March of 2023 and told him that he had won a huge amount of money. He claimed that his son didn’t talk about the money other than the fact that he had won.
The father claims that he didn’t ask for any of the money. However, despite his newfound wealth, the man still made numerous high-dollar promises to his family. Some of these include buying his father a new garage, setting up a trust fund, and paying for his stepfather’s medical bills.
The father claims that his son insisted that he never talk to the woman who is the mother of his granddaughter. This caused a rift between them, as the Independent reported. According to the father, he told his son that he was not the person he knew. The man then reportedly called him a “dictator” and an “a**ehole.” The father claims that he hasn’t seen his son since he stopped making any of the promised actions.
The man, who claimed the lottery prize, admitted that he made a big mistake by informing his father about his victory without signing a confidentiality agreement.
The relationship between the man and his family deteriorated quickly after he won the lottery prize. He also claims that he never told his father about the details of his plan to use the money for his daughter’s benefit. He additionally accused his baby mama, who is the daughter’s mother, of trying to leak his identity to the public.
