A court sentenced Sven Lindemann to spend 31 years in prison after he killed his girlfriend, Monique Lezsak, in front of their daughter.
He admitted to the crime, which he carried out due to jealousy, and blamed his victim for driving him to kill her.
According to the judge who sentenced him, his actions were the most extreme form of domestic violence.
Hollingworth noted that he did not believe that Lindemann was genuinely remorseful for what he had done.
He will have to serve a minimum sentence of 25 years before he can apply for parole.
During the court proceeding, Lezsak’s relatives and friends sat in the gallery.
The court heard that a report by a psychologist revealed that Lindemann had problematic gender-based beliefs and high standards for women he had dated.
The judge also referred to him as a remorseless hypocrite due to how he had left his family behind in Australia to be with Lezsak, four years before the incident.
The relationship between Lindemann and Lezsak had started to deteriorate by April last year.
He also learned that she was seeing another man from Queensland.
On May 30, 2023, he waited outside Lezsak’s house in Endeavour Hills so that her father would leave.
Lindemann armed himself and entered the kitchen and ensuite of Lezsak’s house. He then stabbed her multiple times.
Her daughter tried to stop him from attacking her mother, but she suffered a hand injury during the struggle.
The girl, who was in the house at the time of the incident, called the police to report the crime.
After the murder, Lindemann attempted to kill himself. He then blamed the victim for the incident.
